Q: How does the process of adoption work? Do we fill out the application so that we can be matched in the future for a kitten?
A: Yes! The first step is answering our questionnaire. Once we review it and find it satisfactory, you will be given the option of either reserving a current kitten or joining our reservations list for an upcoming litter. Either option requires a $200 non-refundable deposit, which is good for one full year if a spot on the list is claimed. The deposit is then applied to the price of kitten which is due at time of pick-up.
Q: How long have you been involved in the cat fancy? A: We’ve enjoyed raising Exotics under the mentorship of a well-established and highly reputable breeder in Maine for a bit over 2 years now. AS a matter of fact, she has recently decided to retire and is entrusting us with most of her breeders and customers. What a blessing! Happy to provide her contact info as a reference if needed.
Q: What do you think is special about this breed?
A: The question is, do I find anything that’s NOT special about this breed? We had a “regular” cat (Grant) as a special family inside pet for 18 years! Since Grant died, no cat could quite take his place. Then we discovered the Exotic Shorthair, bought our first two kittens from the lady who became my mentor, and voila! We loved them so much we wanted to raise them! Our family mainly focuses on giant breed dogs, so I personally find working with my little gentle exotics very relaxing, enjoyable, and rewarding! Q: At what age do you place your kittens? A: Our kittens generally go home around 8-10 weeks unless an issue were to arise, which we would transparently disclose to our customer and insist on keeping kitten until the issue is treated and resolved.
Q: I saw your cattery is closed to visitors, but you provide vet reference! Do you also provide additional references to those who have purchased a kitten before? A: Absolutely! I probably have a dozen people eager to share their experiences with us! Just ask and I’ll send contacts!
Q: In terms of health: What congenital defects are in this breed and how are you breeding to avoid those defects? I saw you said they test PKD clear, is there anything else they are tested for? Is that record of testing provided amongst adoption? A: All our lines are PKD by parentage. However, since most folks want proof of that, and I don’t blame them, I’m working on obtaining PKD clearances on each individual breeder. Not all have it just yet but will in the near future! In addition, my vet tests a random cat from my cattery a couple of times per year for FIV/FelV. I keep that negative test result on file and am happy to share it.
Q: What other paperwork do you give with your kittens?
A: Our kittens go home with our one year replacement warranty and proof of CFA registration eligibility. CFA registration is granted when proof of spay or neuter is provided to me.
Q: Is the $200 non-refundable deposit only for kittens that are already born? A: The $200 non-refundable deposit is both for a specific kitten choice as well as for a spot on our reservations list. It is applied to the price of kitten at the time of pick-up, when the remaining balance is due.
Q: Do you offer a written sales contract? A: Yes I do! See it in its entirety here: https://www.frownyfacecats.com/waiting-list-and-forecast.html.
Q: Is there a health guarantee? A: Yes, see it on the same link as above.
Q: What health checks/vaccines do the kittens receive before being sent to their forever home? A: Our kittens are vet-checked around 6 weeks and will have at least one core vaccine before going home. If a kitten remains in my possession long enough for additional vaccines, they will be vaccinated on schedule.
